Kay's dominoes...

The super liberal Off the Kuff blog talks about how Kay's resignation or non resignation is starting to annoy some of the peeps (link). He rehashes Jason Embry's scenarios. I think both have valuable comments to add to the discussion. The Houston Chronicle has a blog up as well about this (link). Excerpt follows...
Hutchison has told associates she plans to resign New Year's weekend, a delay that raises doubts she means it. Filing opens on December 3 and ends January 4. State law prohibit a candidate from withdrawing after December 30, putting pressure on Hutchison to resolve the issue in time for Dewhurst, Abbott and others to settle their ballot positions. Delaying her resignation after the filing deadline might defer nomination fights to the State Republican Committee instead of primary voters.
She has said a lot of things. October was one of those times but that doesn't look like it is happening now. Kay has also backtracked somewhat in terms of saying that she will stay and fight against Obamacare and cap and trade...

Is Kay ever really resigning?

One of the commenters over there sez exactly what I have been hearing from people not associated with Rick or Kay at all... in fact I have heard it from people associated with one of the possible senate candidates...
Word on the street is that she will not resign unless there is a poll showing her up 10 or more versus Perry. She's had two campaign staffers quit because they were promised a full-time candidate who has resigned her Senate seat, but then KBH saw some poll numbers and had second thoughts about the whole thing. She's told donors so many different pushed-back dates that her political fundraising is suffering--donors don't know whether or not she'll go through with it.

It's a helluva catch-22 for Hutchison: if she keeps her seat, she upsets the grassroots, who are behind Michael Williams to take the seat, and, if she leaves her seat, she's slapped the GOP in the face by opening her seat up to Bill White/John Sharp on the "D" side.
I think Kay missed some good windows to resign. She missed the time that could have avoided an expensive special election... she honestly should have resigned about a year ago. I think her reluctance to resign does indicate a lack of confidence that she can win...

Hey now, campaign characters. Be nice. I know a lot of you on both sides, so I don't want any overly foul language, personal attacks on anyone other than the candidates themselves, or other party fouls. I will moderate the heck out of you if you start breaking the bounds of civility.
