Who is Mark Greenbaum and why is he such an idiot?

Mark Greenbaum is trying to get his name etched up there with Tolkien and Rowling as a popular fantasy writer in this blog for Salon (link)...
Perry has created widespread anger by stacking the state school board with religious conservatives.
Hello dumb ass... the Texas State Board of Education is 100% elected from districts around the state. Rick didn't stack anything. Stop believing Bill White's propaganda and do a little research.

Greenbaum... dude... your entire article is hilarious. The latest poll shows Rick 50%, Bill White 38% (link). Liberal Democrat numbers guy Nate Silver who just joined the New York Times gives Bill White a 17% chance of winning (link). If Texas is the best chance progressives have this year, boy is this ever going to be a bad year for Democrats... a real slaughter nation wide...

Bill White and his coordinating Back to Basics PAC have spent millions on television with little or no impact... maybe even backwards impact...

Rick has spent nothing on advertisements since the primary... just wait until he begins to really define Bill White downward... a couple or few million dollars explaining Bill White's shady background... a couple or few million more in issue contrast ads... a couple or few million in positive rally around Texas ads... the roughly ten point lead Rick has right now in recent polls could really grow by a lot if Rick has the resources.

Another related question... who is Alex Knepper and why is he such an idiot (link). Save these articles for November 3...

They're all Rick Perrys now...

I remember way back when Rick's anti Obama rhetoric seemed like a risky move. Obama was still fresh off a huge win... Obama was still hugely popular... even somewhat popular in Texas due to the honey moon bounce...

I remember political peeps in the bubble speculating about whether opposition to Obama by Rick would make Rick vulnerable for the general election... or even that someone might try to play the race card and say that Rick's anti Obama attitude is just about racism...

Oh how times change in a hurry.

POLITICO had an interesting article about how Rick's anti federal government anti Obama strategy that he cranked up in early 2009 is now becoming the norm all across the country... everyone... even some Democrats... are running against or at least away from Obama (link). Excerpt follows...

They’re all Rick Perrys now.

A year and a half after the governor of Texas energized his reelection campaign by casting himself as an antagonist to President Barack Obama, Republican gubernatorial candidates across the country are following his example.

[SNIP]

“It’s always best in politics to use things that work. People are fed up with what’s going on in Washington,” said Republican strategist Dave Carney, a Perry adviser who called Obama “the single greatest asset to Republicans around the country.”

Now even Bill White runs away from Obama personally even if he is a kindred spirit on issues and party labels...

Bill White's DC lobbyist funded campaign is completely bankrupt of ideas...

Bill White has a commercial out bashing Rick for having a fund raiser with lobbyists in attendance... but Bill White had a big lobbyist fund raiser in Washington and is almost entirely funded by liberal trial lawyers and other liberal special interests (link). Excerpt follows...

Lobbyist attacks. Bill White is not without sin on this... yet he is personally casting stones... I think he will be punished severely by the voters for this blatant hypocrisy...

Whatever happened to Bill White...

So it begins (link). Excerpt follows...

Earlier this year, you heard a lot of buzz about former Houston mayor Bill White’s chances to beat Texas Gov. Rick Perry, a win that would undoubtedly invigorate Democrats and persuade them that they can win, with the right candidates, even in the reddest parts of the country.

Time magazine: “Has a Democrat Got a Chance of Becoming Governor of Texas?”

The Houston Chronicle: “The former Houston mayor arguably is the strongest gubernatorial candidate Democrats have nominated since Ann Richards in 1990.”

A Public Policy Polling poll in June showed the pair tied: “For now this looks like a surprisingly strong opportunity for Democrats and a race that could certainly end up as one of the most closely watched in the country.”

Yet when you look at the overall polling, it looks pretty consistent:

And the most recent poll, by a Republican firm, puts Perry up by 12, 50 percent to 38 percent.

Bill White... when will his peeps begin turning on him for running such an uninspired campaign?

New video from Rick shows that he and his peeps feel extremely confident about winning...

Yesterday a new GOPAC poll... widely circulated... came out showing Rick up by 12... 50% to 38%... over Bill White (link)... this on the heels of a recent poll by Rasmussen showing Rick up 49-41...

At this point Rick is just toying with Bill White... this is just psychological warfare at this point...

Rick is clearly in the mode of playing with his prey... somehow I feel like they may launch into real attack mode in the next few weeks and then it is all over...

Classic Rick... "whatcha hiding Mr. White?"

It doesn't look like Rick is going to budge on this debate thing unless Bill White releases his taxes... and the numbers simply can't or won't budge unless Bill White can shake things up.

It looks like Bill White has very little choice but to release the documents and let them see the light of day...

Rick in his own words in these videos (link)...
Gov. Rick Perry has been dodging plans to debate Democratic Gubernatorial Candidate Bill White as of late. On Tuesday afternoon, KTAB's Priscilla Luong asked Perry if he had plans to verbally duke it out with his November opponent.

"Sure," Perry quickly responded. "As soon as he releases his income taxes from his days as Deputy Secretary of Energy. I'll be happy to debate."

To this point, White has not released those documents, tax returns for the years he was Houston mayor, and for 2009. Perry said Texans deserve transparency from their leaders.

"If you've been doing some things in your public life that aren't appropriate, we want to know about it," said Perry.

Perry joked that he had a question directed toward White.

"Whatcha hiding, Mr. White?" chuckled Perry. "Come clean!"

Despite the fact Perry has not agreed to a debate, the five largest Texas newspapers and a public television station in Austin announced last week they would hold an October debate.

"I actually get a charge out of it," said Perry. "It's something I actually look forward to!"

Another video (link)...

"That's my leverage, if he wants to debate me, turn those records out," Perry said. "He doesn't want you to know what he was doing while he was the deputy secretary of treasury, I think everyone in this room needs to know if he was doing some deals that was enriching himself or doing business with less than savory individuals in the world today, I think Texans deserve to know, whether or not he was doing that."
What could Bill White possibly think is so important or damaging that he doesn't want Texas peeps to be able to see the record... Rick makes it sounds like he thinks he might know something the rest of us don't. I mean was Bill White running an underage gay brothel? Funding 9/11 terrorists? Involved with genocidal warlords in Sudan? Kickbacks and corrupt bribe transactions with Tony Rezko, Charlie Rangel, Rod Blagojevich, Enron, and Jack Abramoff? What could be so bad in Bill White's taxes as to throw away a chance to debate... I don't get it. It simply can't be that bad... maybe tax evasion? Who knows...

Also... don't Bill White's peeps see that almost every time they bring this issue up, there is a mention of how Bill White is hiding his taxes... so it's a net loss for them... I am sure their polls say that peeps want Rick to debate and all of that... but they apparently didn't poll how people view Bill White's shadiness and refusal to release his tax records...

They continue hammering on this debate thing, but they keep fragging themselves in the process... and they are talking about internal making sausage campaign stuff instead of real issues...

Meanwhile it looks like Rick is just having a lot of fun out there... blowing the fake smoke away from his smoking gun... his finger... hamming it up and asking "whatcha hiding Mr. White" like it's all a game... he is just toying with Bill White at this point. Rick knows he is in the driver's seat, and there is no reason for him to cave and debate without Bill White capitulating on the tax records issue...

If Bill White wants to shake things up it looks like his ads aren't going to do that... he and his trial lawyer buddy have spent millions attacking Rick... but if he wants to shake things up think about what Debra Medina did... she was nothing, but after she got into the debates, she shot upward. That is Bill White's only chance, and because he apparently has some illegal or unethical things in his past he is essentially denying himself a chance to debate and change the game.

Five worst "journalists" covering Texas governor's race today...

1. Gardner Selby (Austin American Statesman)- man behind the bogus biased PolitiFact that has been debunked so many times it is amazing there are any beds left in the entire state of Texas. It's not just the bias... and the bias is palpable and offensive... it's the way Politifact Texas holds itself up as the final arbiter of truth. Some of the biggest doozies include saying it was "false" of Rick to claim that 70% of all jobs in America had been created in Texas over whatever time period... a claim that was absolutely true and verifiable by the official federal government data available to everyone online. Rick may have even been understating his claim just to be safe... but Gardner Selby determined this claim was false because he said so. More than even their findings, PolitiFact runs into the problem of selection bias. Which statements to fact check... which to ignore...

2. Wayne Slater (Dallas Morning News)- probably even more overtly biased than Gardner Selby, but he comes in second place because he is really more of a trashy gossip columnist and Maddow/Olbermann suck up than someone holding himself up as the pinnacle of objectivity. Slater has an unhealthy obsession with Karl Rove... but over the past couple of years he has become a little bit single white female about Rick's every move.

3. Elise Hu (Texas Tribune)- played the race card when Rick's peeps used a stupid looking picture of shorter than average Bill White standing next to Yao Ming. Elise is not as bad as some ranked further down on the list, but playing the race card earns you big negative points in my book. Elise also gets points taken off for using the Burnt Orange Report as a major source when Rick's webcast was hacked a year ago...

4. Joe Holley (Houston Chronicle)- Joe Holley consistently slants his stories, but one in particular bothered me more than others. Joe wrote an entire article about how "GOP stalwarts" are planning to vote for Bill White... only it turns out most of his examples were big Democrat donors in the past.

5 (tie). Gromer Jeffers (Dallas Morning News)- for writing articles about how Bill White is winning over Republicans en masse using easily verifiable activist Democrats as his "Republican" examples, Gromer makes the list.

5 (tie). Dave Montgomery (Fort Worth Star Telegram)- for writing articles about how Bill White is winning over Republicans en masse using easily verifiable activist Democrats as his "Republican" examples, Dave Montgomery makes the list. Dave would usually be nowhere near this list, but blame it on age, blame it on naivety, but he really screwed up.

There are dozens of others who nearly made the list for various journalistic crimes against the truth and integrity... but I had to pick 5. Technically I guess I chose 6...

Who really knows the other biases happening quietly behind the scenes. Think about all the bad stories about Democrats that get killed by reporters who don't want to hurt their preferred candidates... think about all the positive stories about Republicans that get killed because they

The accumulation of bias is the problem. Letting Democrats have a quote bashing Rick in a bio piece, but not letting Republicans get a chance to shoot back at Bill White in his corresponding fluff bio piece... this is often the fault of the editors not the reporters... because different reporters sometimes write parallel stories like that... that accumulation of bias is subtle but makes a bit difference.

Still... reporters have an obligation to preserve the integrity and viability of their field. The liberal bias in journalism has undercut their credibility and basically killed newspapers... the most liberal newspapers are failing faster than the so called conservative papers... reporters should take on other reporters for their bias... call out Wayne Slater for being a trashy sensationalistic gossip columnist... call out Gardner Selby for false fact checking...

If reporters want to preserve their profession, they need to preserve the integrity of their profession. They need to move away from the far liberal left where they reside now... they need to open their minds by consuming more "conservative" media and not just to sneer at it. There are a lot of conservative bloggers out there, but the liberal "journalists" mostly just read the liberal blogs, so those are their sources... official sources as well as sources of story ideas...

Right now in Texas there is a lot of bias on clear display... and probably a lot not on display...
