Former roving ambassador and Bush 43 White House spokeswoman Karen Hughes (right/AP photo) is a bit irked. Late last week, the state's fiscal condition spilled into the GOP governor's race when Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison, whom Hughes supports, put out a statement criticizing Gov. Rick Perry for not having asked state agencies to reduce spending as state sales tax receipts continue to slump.
It turns out that Perry and Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst, who are for all intents and purposes practically a political team these days, wanted to ask agency heads for ideas on spending cuts last month. But House Speaker Joe Straus, who is Hughes' PR client, wanted to see one more month of sales tax receipts before deciding to co-sign the "Big 3" letter with fellow Republicans Dewhurst and Perry. After Friday's release of December numbers, Straus is now on board and a letter soon will be issued that solicits ideas for trims that equal between 5 percent and 6 percent of state general-revenue spending.

How involved in Karen Hughes?
How involved in Kay's campaign is Karen Hughes?
If she is heavily involved then this story does not add up... if she is not heavily involved I could see this (link). Excerpt follows...
If Karen Hughes is telling the truth... and I have no reason to not believe her... then she seems to be less involved in Kay's campaign that they let on...

Hey now, campaign characters. Be nice. I know a lot of you on both sides, so I don't want any overly foul language, personal attacks on anyone other than the candidates themselves, or other party fouls. I will moderate the heck out of you if you start breaking the bounds of civility.
