No current politician should have something like this named after himself or herself... especially a desalination plant nearly a thousand miles from the ocean that is not even being used as billed...
El Paso desalination plant operating far below capacity, officials not concerned Thursday, January 07, 2010 FORT BLISS, TEXAS — More than two years after it opened, the Kay Bailey Hutchinson Desalination Plant in El Paso is operating far below capacity, but officials say the plant does not yet need to produce the 27.5 million gallons of water a day of which it is capable, the El Paso Times reported.
According to officials, the $91 million project was an investment in the future and they could increase production in a matter of minutes in response to a drought or increase in demand, the article stated.
Currently, the plant is producing about 4 percent of the drinking water for customers of El Paso Water Utilities, which amounts to approximately 3.5 million gallons a day, according to the report.
“As with any plant you build, you build it for your customers now and customers you have during the life of the investment,” said John Balliew, the utility’s vice president of operations and engineering.
Billed as the world’s largest inland desalination plant, the facility treats water from the Hueco Bolson aquifer that is located beneath East El Paso, the story reported.

Kay has a desalinization plant named after her...
This is starting to get into Robert Byrd style politics now... monuments named after sitting senators... come on... we can do better than this... (link). Excerpt follows...
No wonder Citizens Against Government Waste has blasted Kay so hard in recent months... she is the worst kind of pork barrel spender there is... naming projects after herself? That is just unacceptable for the greatest state in the country. We are above that kind of dirty old style of doing things...

Hey now, campaign characters. Be nice. I know a lot of you on both sides, so I don't want any overly foul language, personal attacks on anyone other than the candidates themselves, or other party fouls. I will moderate the heck out of you if you start breaking the bounds of civility.
