Shield Law for the media...

A few weeks ago, I pondered whether Kay was trying to score points and get favorable treatment from the Dallas Morning News (link). Now Rick has signed a shield law for the media (link), so the same argument applies. Excerpt follows...
We have had some sharp differences over various issues with Gov. Rick Perry in this legislative session and others. But he deserves the thanks of journalists and the public for signing House Bill 670, adding Texas to the ranks of 36 states and the District of Columbia that have a "shield law" to protect journalists' confidential sources and whistle-blowers.
Will that buy him any good will from an industry that is performing somewhat poorly financially?

I am immediately suspicious of any new law, let alone any new law that helps journalists, but I think this seems like an important move to keep journalists out of jail for simply doing their jobs and expressing their Constitutional rights.

Hey now, campaign characters. Be nice. I know a lot of you on both sides, so I don't want any overly foul language, personal attacks on anyone other than the candidates themselves, or other party fouls. I will moderate the heck out of you if you start breaking the bounds of civility.
