Joe Pounder's quote and Rick's quote on Kay's "I am not resigning" announcement...

Joe Pounder is trying his best to spin about Kay's non resignation announcement (link). Excerpt follows...

GOP gubernatorial candidate Kay Bailey Hutchison will announce tomorrow she will not resign from the U.S. Senate “until the fight against Obama Care and Cap and Trade are over,” campaign spokesman Joe Pounder said today.

“She, like every Texan, can fight on two fronts at one time,” Pounder said.

Rick has a certain way of boiling down a situation to the basics, and he set the situation up for more attacks on Kay if and when she continues to miss votes while not stepping down...

Her GOP primary opponent Gov. Rick Perry today reiterated his belief that Hutchison needs to stay in Washington to block Democrats who are “trying force a health care plan on us that is absolutely devastating to the bottom line in Texas.”

“All hands on deck, 24-7 is what we need,” Perry said. “We’ve got a senator that’s A-W-O-L in places and we’ve got votes that are being missed.”

Kay has been so adamant about saying she is resigning sometime this year... until recently when she started hinting that she was pushing the announcement back. A Kay supporter at one of her recent events said that she actually polled her group of supporters to ask them whether she should resign or not...

Is this 2005 all over again? Back then she backed out one step at a time until not running at all. She is in so much deeper this time though... it would be a lot harder to pull out of the race completely but this does raise questions... is she committed to running for this seat?

Rick's peeps are gleeful about today... saying she is throwing in the towel and all of that. I don't know. I think though that cap and trade and health care could really keep dragging out for a long long time...

Hey now, campaign characters. Be nice. I know a lot of you on both sides, so I don't want any overly foul language, personal attacks on anyone other than the candidates themselves, or other party fouls. I will moderate the heck out of you if you start breaking the bounds of civility.
