Two legs of the three legged Republican stool....

The pro Rick Texas Conservative blog succinctly lays out the case for Rick and against Kay better than even Rick's campaign has done so far (link). Excerpt follows...
For those who are involved in the Republican Party, it is known that there are three legs to the stool: Fiscal, Social, and National Security. Now for for races on a state level, only the first two legs receive attenion….and will the candidates get questioned on. So, considering national security will not be playing a big roll in the Texas Governor’s race, Senator Hutchison’s campaign is perhaps the most dire of straits since it began.
Read the whole thing...

Rick is beating Kay because he has made the case better on all of these issues...

I think that blog is correct to say that Republican primaries at the state level come down to those two legs... fiscal and social conservative issues...

Everyone believed it could come down to Rick winning social conservatives and Kay winning fiscal conservatives... and I was one of the people who felt like Kay's fiscal strengths would out weigh Rick's social strengths... especially for my vote... but something strange happened...

Since I have been following the race closely... Rick has hardly ever talked about abortion or other social issues... he has hammered Kay consistently on what the common wisdom believed was Kay's strength... fiscal issues. Now he has developed a clear advantage on fiscal issues while Kay has done little or nothing to cut into Rick's built in advantage on social issues...

Sorry but HPV is not a dial mover... it just isn't...

On fiscal issues though Rick's peeps must have some dirty blackmail pictures of the Citizens Against Government Waste staff because they have just killed Kay over and over for her pork... they have made about 20 web videos of the same bailout vote... some with cats, some ominous... and now it is their official television advertisement... Rick's peeps have harped on fiscal issues and are now winning on that category...

If Texas does secede the third leg of the Republican stool would be relevant... but it is not because Texas is still just a state... the common wisdom is that this issue being off the table probably hurts Kay because she fashions herself as such a champion of military funding... although Rick has done some things like in state tuition for veterans and is a veteran himself... so maybe that wouldn't have helped her as much as people think...

  1. I voted for Kay Beltway Hutchison in '05, but never again.   Oh wait, I lied.   A couple of days ago I did vote for Kay Beltway again.   This time at 'Citizens Against Government Waste' site for Kay Beltway Hutchinson: 2009 Porker of the Year!

Hey now, campaign characters. Be nice. I know a lot of you on both sides, so I don't want any overly foul language, personal attacks on anyone other than the candidates themselves, or other party fouls. I will moderate the heck out of you if you start breaking the bounds of civility.
