Coverage roundup of Rick's 10th amendment viral craziness...

  • Ace of Spades, a bigtime rightwing blog, says (link)...
How quaintly 19th/early 20th century. Too bad there's not more of it.
  • Mainstream media blog Trail Blazers, blogged it (link).
  • The Elephant Man says (link)...
Bravo! Texas here I come!
  • Media Lizzy has a whole history of the 10th amendment and says (link)...
Now if only other Governors would provide the 111th Congress and POTUS of the other nine Amendments in the Bill of Rights, as well as the rest of the Constitution.
  • RealClearPolitics video has the entire video of Rick (link).
  • Another blogger says what a lot of us cranky Republicans are thinking (link)...
I do not like Rick Perry, but in a race against our U.S. Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison for governor of Texas, give me Rick Perry.
  • Cultural Gadfly says it well, and here is an excerpt (link)...
Truly a conservative rebuke of the Federal Government, no? Oppressive for three reasons:1. Size; 2. Intrusion in citizens lives; 3. interference in state affairs. It is great to read something so clear and succinct, and so unabashedly conservative. Note that this is not meant to be divisive, for Perry indicates that properly independent states will actually form a greater, stronger union.
  • Say Anything blog says that this resolution actually has teeth (link)...
Our country was founded as a national of individualists, and our founding fathers didn’t believe that a nation of individuals could be run effectively with decisions being made by one central governing body. So we have a nation made up of sovereign states which themselves are divided into smaller governing bodies (counties, cities, etc.). This allowed each locality to effectively make the decisions best for that locality without necessarily cramming those decisions down the throats of those living in other localities for whom those decisions may not be best.
  • Conservative for Change says (link)...
The beauty of this move is it will allow other Governors of the states to act, and support these measures. If enough states band together, they can propose their own Constitutional Amendment, without the help of the United States Congress and reaffirm the power of the Constitution.
  • Texas based Alamo City Pundit adds (link)...

While some may see this as a political move — it makes Texas Senator kay Bailey Hutchinson seem more like a “Washington Insider” and isolted from what’s going on in her state — it’s also a very direct reflection of what’s going on here in Texas.

We truly are mad as hell.

  • Rebellion blog has a somewhat interesting comment section at least (link).
  • The Big Dawg Blog on the block, the Foundry from the Heritage Foundation weighs in (link).
  • yourpoliticsareboring has a good blog and says (link)...
The federal government exists to provide for national defense and protect our life, liberty, and property. It is there to protect and safeguard our God-given rights, not to grant them to us as it sees fit. It is not there for us to look to for guidance in any adverse situation, and it is not there to tell us how to live.
  • Rick Gray blog has an addition to the chorus (link).
  • Pierre Legrand adds (link)...
Hey Governor Perry why not ask the Federal Government if you are being listed as a terrorist? The rest of us are! We all knew it would get to this…after all remember who the Buffoon in Chiefs friends are….
  • Texas Fred adds some harsh words about Kay (link)...

And to Texas folks, I want to ask you a few questions. What have you heard from Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison lately? Have you heard one word from her concerning Texas sovereignty? Have you heard so much as one word from Socialist Senator Hutchison concerning the Texas Tea Parties on Tax Day? Have you heard anything from her concerning the securing of our border with Mexico??

How about that?? Pretty quiet from the woman that was once thought to be the best thing Texas ever produced. Kay Bailey Hutchison wants to come home and run for Governor, run against Rick Perry. That is her decision to make. As for me, I will NEVER support Kay Bailey Hutchison and I hope she is headed for a long and quiet retirement.

  • Flash Force blog is about ready to forgive Rick for the Trans Texas Corridor (link)...
Personally, I disagree with our otherwise fine governor when it came to building the Trans-Texas Corridor (or as I like to refer to it, the paved interstate invasion corridor). However. Let it be known that on this issue - I am backing Governor Rick Perry 100% on this issue.
  • Hot Air asks what I am also asking (link)...
Not sure why Drudge is touting this today given that it was uploaded almost a week ago. Maybe it’s a tea-party aperitif or maybe it’s just his wry counterpoint to the DHS report on “right-wing radicals.” Either way, it’s a dynamite stunt by Perry, guaranteed to resonate tomorrow and to raise his profile with the base ahead of 2012.
  • East Austin's Voice adds its 2 cents (link).
  • The Pajama Pundit has to questions (link)...
1) will Governor Perry be labeled a right-wing-extremist?
2) How close is Texas to secession (if at all)?
  • Street Knowledge adds to the mix (link).
  • Holy Coast has some good comments (link)...
States rights took a big hit under Abraham Lincoln. Prior to the Civil War the states were much more powerful as individual governments...as the founders intended... but in order to hold the union together, a lot of that state power was abrogated by the federal government.
  • Tax Tips for Democrats says that "Gov Perry the New Defacto Leader of Conservatives Through Example" (link)...
These are the words many Americans await from their own state elected officials, providing the masses with vigor versus rhetoric. Texas, from its earliest days, has maintained this right within their state constitution but has yet ever had to enforce it and remind the federal government that states do have rights.
  • Right Soup says (link)...
You’re officially on notice, Federales: Don’t mess with Texas, and Don’t Tread On Me. The people of this nation are standing up to take back our country.

All I can say is... WOW. Rick must be glowing from all of this attention, almost uniformly good, from his base.

Hey now, campaign characters. Be nice. I know a lot of you on both sides, so I don't want any overly foul language, personal attacks on anyone other than the candidates themselves, or other party fouls. I will moderate the heck out of you if you start breaking the bounds of civility.
