Rick brings up voter ID...

Kay was notoriously absent from the voter ID discussions this year, and she earned a lot of ire from the Republican Women for sitting on the sidelines on such an important issue. Rick famously bashed people who stayed on the sidelines while speaking just a few feet from Kay (link). Ken Herman caught the whole thing on tape with the Rick or Kay tape...

Now Rick is bringing up voter ID again when he talks to Republican Women groups around the state (link). Excerpt follows...

— Gov. Rick Perry, in town for a Nueces County Republican Women’s fund-raiser, spoke in favor of fiscal conservatism and stemming the flow of undocumented immigrants into the country.

Perry criticized the federal government for bailing out failing businesses and banks.

“You can’t spend your way to prosperity,” Perry said.

Perry also promised to loud applause that he will push for a new voter identification billsimilar to one that failed in the Legislature earlier this year. It would require voters to show a picture ID to vote.

Republicans say it would reduce voter fraud. Democrats say it would suppress voter turnout, particularly among minorities.

Very interesting. I had not thought about voter ID being an issue in this race, but it just might be if Rick and his peeps can play their cards right...

Hey now, campaign characters. Be nice. I know a lot of you on both sides, so I don't want any overly foul language, personal attacks on anyone other than the candidates themselves, or other party fouls. I will moderate the heck out of you if you start breaking the bounds of civility.
